Aifo was born in 1961 as an organisation for helping the persons affected with leprosy. In 2018, AIFO is celebrating its 57 anniversary. Over the past decades, Aifo’s rehabilitation work with the leprosy-affected persons has been enlarged to focus on persons with different disabilities through the Community-based Inclusive Development (CBID) approach. At the same time, its work for diagnosis and treatment of leprosy now is part of primary health care and community health approaches.
Leprosy continues to be a key area of work for Aifo and it continues to be part of the International Federation of Anti-Leprosy Associations (ILEP).
Since early years of the 21st century, Aifo has been supporting the Leprosy Mailing List (LML) to promote exchange of information between persons working in the area of leprosy in different parts of the world.
